My mom needed a new winter hat. I wanted something that I could work on while sitting in the hospital with her & have done quickly.

I bought a skein of Wool Ease Thick & Quick from Micheals.

I fiddled with this yarn trying out a crochet flat, slip stitch, short row hat. I ended up not having enough yarn to finish that first attempt. I got another skein of yarn and the recommended hook size ( N/15/10mm).

I ended up working single crochet instead of the slip stitch.

It’s thick and chunky.

Since I wasn’t using a pattern or any sort of math at all, I did have some difficulty with the length of the hat. I could’ve went maybe 6 stitches or so less in the starting chain.

I’m happy with how it came out. It took about 30 minutes to work it up and finish it.

I’m going to make another one with Loops & Threads for her roommate.

If you are interested in a video about making these hats, let know in the comments.
